His father played drums in marching bands, drum and bugle corps, and swing bands and passed the family trait down. After cutting his teeth in young early bands, he joined regional band Justin Morgan in 1982. This band played all across the region and in Colorado. After this endeavor, he joined Gregg Lee to start the regional band Airstrike, which produced and released the album “Initial Attack” in 1986. The band toured in support of the album from the Midwest to the Southwest. In late 1987, John joined On The Fritz, a popular Omaha, NE band, with Stan and Wayne Fritz. He was the drummer and vocalist in this band until 2008. He then retired from playing for a number years before working with his brother Brian Kent on writing a new original album. The band 1 Trak Mind emerged on the Lincoln and Omaha scene in 2017 and recorded “Brainstorm”, released in 2019. He then joined up and re-united with the Fritz brothers and Steve to start up Trick Police.
